The Jaguar S-Type is an executive class cruiser that was built from 2000 through 2008 on a platform shared with the Lincoln LS. If you see an S-Type in Europe, there is a good chance that it has a small V6 and a 5-speed manual gearbox, but on this side of the pond most were equipped with Ford semi-automatic slushbox. A few lucky buyers walked away with a manual gearbox S-Type and you can pick them up for pennies today. Find this

Tip from Sean.
The Ford DEW platform was used for the 2000-2008 S-Type, 2000-2006
Lincoln LS
and 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird — and to some extent, it continued to be used by Jaguar’s new parent Tata Motors under the Jaguar XF from 2008-2015. It isn’t a bad platform at all and combines a longitudinal front engine with an independent rear end in a package that is very similar in approach to BMW’s 5-series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Under the hood is a 3.0 liter AJ30 DOHC V6 that is rated at 235 horsepower and 216 ft-lbs of torque — but don’t let the Jaguar designation fool you, this is just a version of Ford’s Duratec V6. However it does have variable valve timing in its 4-valve aluminum head, forged powder metal con rods, and a one-piece cast camshaft to make it special for the Jag.
See another manual shifted executive class cruiser for cheap?

That’s an awesome deal and something I’d actually like to own! (ohh comfort... I’m starting to miss you...)

10/10 would rather have this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A6-Ba…
I really miss mine.

I’ve actually been thinking hard about seeking out an S-Type with a manual. S-Types have really aged quite nicely, especially compared to a certain other Ford era Jag that will never not look like it was born to an XJ8 that drank a lot during pregnancy.
Plus, shared parts with the Lincoln LS! That would be heaven in comparison to my X308.

Me too although I'd rather have an XJ8 but the lack of manual killed that dream

The S-Type is a cool car. Plus, you do get the hood ornament :)

When I was automotively lost I considered one of those. I really wanted an XJ8 but the lack of manual sent me to the S-types. The XJ’s r so awesome it ruined the look of the S-typeS-type for me. I even started looking for XJs with blown trans so I could do a swap but the sender like a bad idea.

Dream bigger, my friend. Someone posted a video a few weeks ago of an XJ8 that had a manual swap. It really helped me come to terms with the knowledge that the transmission in mine will eventually commit suicide.

I prefer my AWD manual Jaaag.

I was sort of considering S-Types around the time I was shopping for XJ8s, but they just couldn’t compare in terms of styling and performance (except for the R, obviously), even though the maintenance was a much less horrifying prospect. I kind of want one now though.
“Oh, well, this one is my sort of reliable Jaaaaaaaaag .”

I wonder if anybody has twin turboed the Jag V6s considering how much Duratecs love to be twin turbo charged.

Anybody else find the S-type absolutely beautiful?

It kinda came down to needing a car and needing it ASAP. I didn’t really have the time to need with a project like that..... So insted I bought an Allroad. Makes complete sense

That’s a great driveway!

You’ll love that 2.7T till the first time you need to pay someone else to work on it. Great cars for the DIYer with a lift, but MAN...when something goes wrong on an old Audi...it really gets expensive quickly.

Sometimes the only difference between being a Jalop and being in an abusive relationship is that it’s easier to leave the relationship.

When you said AWD Jaaaag, this is what I thought about.

I used to have a 2.7t A6 with the six speed.
It wasn’t unreliable by any means. Basic things in any other car cost about twice as much in the A6.

The big problem with these is they aren’t that reliable and the part/service can get expensive.
I know people who have owned them...

The s type’s exterior is aging rather well imo.

Those are a really entertaining drive. Kind of garbage, but enjoyable garbage.
